I bought this compactor to replace a 23 year old Kenmore. The door is flimsy and does not always shut at the bottom. Currently waiting on parts to come in so that it can be repaired under warranty. It came out of the box needing repaired. The only way to get a brand new one is to go back to the store where it was bought. No appliance should need repaired out of the box.

Have had this compactor for less then 2 years and have had to have the start button fixed twice. Service call and parts have cost me almost $500. My last trash compactor lasted almost 20 years with no problems.

We've only had this product for about 18 months. The start button has always been really hard to push and as of this week the plastic console cover cracked! Do not buy this product. At this price point it should last years.

We never had one, but in-laws did and we were so jealous. So when we had our new home built we specified a trash compactor and I am happier than my wife. Great place to put paper and cardboard so it isn't laying around or having to make many trips to dump paper waste. I chose not to allow my wife to put anything in that has touched food and it can be weeks before emptying, but so easy.

Instead of possibly wining another Whirlpool Appliance - I would love to just have my defective Trash Compactor replaced. I'm on my 5th service call and now going through Whitrlool directly I have to wait 3 weeks for a service technician to come to my house to fix my defective compliance - mind you it's 3 weeks with trash in one of the hottest summers we have had in a long time! I am on my 5th service call with the same issue. The compactor gets stuck in the middle of compacting. My first call the Tech came out and all he did was push the button and it worked. The 2nd and 3rd calls for the same issue I had to cancel the day of the appt. (7 days from the call of the problem) because it worked. The 4th call the Tech came to the house and just took off the cover and it worked. Now about a week later it's not working again - I called Whirlpool today August 10 and they can't have a Tech here until August 29th. 19 days with trash stuck in the Compactor is UNACCEPTABLE - I really think I have a defected compactor -

Replaced our retired Whirlpool compactor that died after more than 25 yrs. new one not the same quality but everything is very similar. Installers had no clue. Just set it in the kitchen and left it to me to install. They didn't even take out the inner cardboard shipping protection. Had to call Whirlpool service to see if it was packing or for some other reason.

I purchased this to replace an older unit that came with the house that we bought 17 years ago. The old Whirlpool unit still worked great, albeit a little noisy. But when I replaced all my other appliances with stainless, I needed something that looked like the rest. I chose this model because of Whirpool's past reliability, and the fact that this was stainless. It works fine. It just feels a lot more "flimsy" when opening and closing. I can only hope that this one lasts the 17+ years that the other did.
